It looks stormy back in the US and we have not escaped rainy weather in Provence. Yesterday we had torrential downpours off and on, but when you are retired, un jour de pluie (rainy day), does not matter in the least. It was not a market day but plenty of locals found their way down our street to the main square to pick up a baguette for déjeuner, to have a cappuccino at Café de France, or to buy a Euro Millions ticket at the Tabac.
We have been enjoying coffee and breakfast in our lovely apartment overlooking Impasse de la Republique each morning, but decided to wander down to Café de France to mingle with the neighbors and to read the local paper La Provence…a prime activity to practice our French. Across the square from the Café is the église Collégiale Notre Dame des Anges, which dates to 1222. Obscured with scaffolding and undergoing exterior restoration, you would be surprised by the interior beauty of this Catholic church.
When the rain cleared a bit, we walked down Rue de la République to a little artist’s impasse. Each day it seems different variations of shoes beckon shoppers down the impasse. Yesterday it was rain-boot doggies…
We found an art gallery and two artist consortiums with delightful offerings, from decorative objects to clothes, beautiful super soft Italian leather purses and shoes – oh my – and hats in many colors…wish I was a hat person but found a few for my friends…you know who you are…
We took a long walk down the river to find the source and discovered beautiful homes and scenery.
And then we stopped for coffee at La Maison Jouvaud which has delightful pastries and chocolates and unique gifts…sigh…added to my list of stores to visit later so that mysterious packages filled with treasures can appear in our luggage.
C’est tout. A bientôt.
